Students need more sleep

One thing I believe Stroudsburg School District could improve on is the well being of the students. I believe they should change the time that school starts because it is hurting the kids. Waking up at 6 a.m. to go to school at 7 a.m. isn’t very easy for a high school kid to do, let alone make it through the day fully focused. Then, for some kids, they have to go to practice for a sport which doesn’t end until 5:30 or 6 oai??i??clock, then on a game day even later than that. After getting up at 6 and getting home at the time they do, the students are still expected to get a good sleep and do the homework that they need to do. Starting school later and giving students that extra sleep can go a long way.

I agree, and I feel starting 1 to 2 hours later is better on our bodies and mood. No one wants to start learning at 7 a.m. but for some reason we do. Starting at 8 or 9 would put everyone in a better mood and more energized. Having more energy would create a better learning environment for everyone.

I agree. Starting school later will have a better impact on students learning. The schedule we have now doesn’t allow us to get a good nights sleep. Students have to wake up between 4a.m and 6 am to get ready and catch the bus. I see students who are tired every morning because they dnt get enough sleep.
Maybe if school started a little later then the students will be awake and ready to work.

I do agree, I feel that we should start school later. An hour or two can go such a long way. Especially for me, I get home from work at 11 and I still somehow manage to get some sort of sleep and manage homework.

I agree wholeheartedly with Sadie on this issue. I think that people, including myself, perform better having had more rest the night before. I, having been in a afterschool club before, know the struggle of having to be consistent with showing up to the meetings and participating in the events that come with the role. Doing this all while still having the strength to complete homework. Like Sadie said, I think that with the data and statistically proven facts about more sleep equaling improvement, schools should take into consideration of pushing school opening hours later. Also, with the two hour delays, I feel more energized when I get to school by 9:00, so maybe if the time was moved from 7:00-2:30 to 9:00-3:30.

It’s also been proven that school should start later. Students perform better when they are able to get enough rest because with enough sleep our bodies are able to recover from the energy spent the previous day. I think that school starting later would improve our grades and our moods a lot.
