The dress code turns ten years old

Is the Stroudsburg Area School District dress code policy effective?

The dress code policy in the Stroudsburg Area School District was first implemented in 2008. Since that date, students and staff have debated just how effective it has been.

Before the dress code was created, there were many disciplinary referrals on a daily basis for inappropriate attire. These referrals were a major disruption in the public education system, especially for the school administration and student body, according to principal Mr. Jeffrey Sodl.

Sodl contends that establishing a dress code has helped improve education at SHS.

“Since we implemented the dress code policy, we’ve seen positive results,” said Sodl. “In the last two years, there has been a 30% reduction in disciplinary referrals.”

However, a common frustration among some students is facing disciplinary referrals for not following the dress code policy, even for minor infractions. These minor infractions can include wearing black on black, or a grey skirt. Even for these minor infractions, students can end up sitting in ACE for a whole day, which means missing a day in school.

Very likely, the response of the administration to such complaints is for students to simply follow the dress code.

They should make it so we can wear whatever color but the shirts still have to be polos and appropriate.
