Spring is only about a month away but that does not keep the hardworking teams at SHS from practicing!
These unofficial practices are called spring intramurals, and they start 1-2 months before the official spring season.
Spring intramurals are for aspiring athletes that want to make sure they are ready for competing when their sport starts.
“I believe that intramurals are important because they provide students with a great opportunity to play their desired sport, as well as making new acquaintances through the team,” said senior Drew Fiedler, a varsity tennis player.
The intramurals also allow athletes to make goals for themselves before the season begins and to work toward achieving them.
“I want to win states and hopefully break the school record for the 800,” said senior Willy Marina, varsity track runner.
Preseason training is important for the team. It allows for the coaches to know who is dedicated and also who is really striving to compete.
“It keeps everyone motivated and active,” said head track coach Mr. Brett Youngken. “It starts to promote team bonding.”
Baseball, tennis, and track all have pre-seasonal training that are open to anybody interested.
Track and field has workouts every Monday and Thursday right after school, at the stadium; baseball has workouts every morning before school in the gym; and tennis has workouts starting next week at the Mo’R Tennis facility in East Stroudsburg every Monday at 4:00, starting on February 3.
