When it comes to creating an award-winning elementary school, Morey Elementary takes the cake.
The National Blue Ribbon Award is given to select elementary, middle, and high schools across the United States for their academic excellence and closing of the achievement gap among students. It is presented to 367 schools across the country and 14 in Pennsylvania.
On September 21, SASD’s Morey Elementary was recognized as a 2020 Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing National Blue Ribbon School. Morey’s Principal, Dr. Cynthia Gehm, accredits this award to the work of the staff and parent involvement. She also attributes their success to the School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) program, as well as regular assessment data meetings and professional development opportunities.
“All of the teachers and staff at Morey are so proud of our students,” said Ms. Kristie Intravaia, a third grade teacher. “The Morey students work so hard and this award is for all of the growth they have shown. Academic success is not just good grades. It’s about always trying your best and growing a little every day.¨
In five years, Morey will be eligible to be nominated for another award. The school has hopes of one day being nominated for the Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School award.
“Morey will continue to work hard with our efforts to close any achievement gaps,¨ said Dr. Gehm. ¨Receiving this award means we are capable of great things, and we will continue to strive for further improvements. Learning never stops!¨
