The Mountaineer Newspaper staff took to Route 80 West and recently attended Media Day at Wilkes University.
For some students, like sophomore Gian Dela Cruz, this was the first field trip since COVID restrictions were imposed. For second-year journalism students, this trip was highly anticipated as last year was a huge success with journalism classes. Kudos to Wilkes University for inviting us back–and hosting lunch!
The Mountie staff was joined by fellow journalists from Deleware Valley School District and Blue Ridge School District. Students had a behind-the-scenes view of the studios at the Karambelas Media and Communication Center which supports video, radio, and print journalism. Wilkes University hosted several workshops in which our students participated. Dr. Kalen Churcher, Associate Professor of the Communications Department, and her team of undergraduates led hands-on activities. Georgie English, 10, engaged in some on-air chatter at Zebra Communications radio studio. Seniors, Luka Konklin and Ethan Custard, SHS editors-in-chief, had opportunities to share and compare editor duties with other EICs from the Del-Val and Blue Ridge staff.
If you want to be a part of next year’s Mountaineer Newspaper staff, be on the alert for upcoming announcements and recruiting events in the spring. In the meantime, brush up on your grammar.
