SHS hosts a wide variety of clubs for diverse interests

Alanna Christman, Staff Writer

SHS boasts over 40 active clubs, ranging from Key Club to Mock Trial. The high school hosts a wide variety of clubs for students with diverse passions and interests (See list of clubs below).

While there are approximately 40 active clubs, there are nearly 20 clubs that are inactive, due to the absence of an adviser. These clubs include Drama Club, Debate Team, and many more (Again, see list below). What’s important to understand about these inactive clubs is that they have already gone through a long approval process, which includes approval from the administration and the school board.

If students are interested in rekindling any of these clubs, the process is straightforward and relatively simple. They just need to find an adviser who is willing to run the club.

“I was excited when I looked at the list of clubs, until I realized they had no advisers,” said sophomore Amaya Cruz. “Clubs like photography, drama, [and] bowling would be so cool.”

There is always an opportunity to start a new club as well. Examples of clubs formed a couple of years ago are Ping Pong Club and Gardening Club.

While creating a new club is possible, the process is fairly challenging.  Students need to find interested students and a willing adviser. Afterwards, students must go to the Activities Office to fill out administrative paperwork, and submit it to the school board for approval. Unfortunately, this process can take months.

Although the process of finding an adviser, getting a club approved, and seeking student interest requires a lot of effort, creating a club is always possible. For more information on the clubs that are currently active and inactive, see the list below.
