Student Spotlight on Yasmine Alrefai

Tyler Stone, Staff Writer

What activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of school?

I like to read and write, but I’m also involved in a couple of clubs so those take up most of my time. I’m also in the cast of ‘Locked In’!

Who do you consider your biggest role model, and why?

Any hijabi that I see, I immediately have respect for them and get inspired by them whether I know them or not. I specifically remember one day I was at the hospital and there was a hijabi doctor, and she’s kind of been my role model I guess, to prove to me that I can do it too.

What is your goal for this year?

My goal for this year is probably to get it together. I’m not the best at short term goals, but I have some long term ones.

What is something that most people may not know about you?

I’ve been told that I look really mean or unapproachable sometimes, but I’m actually really nice! I promise. I mean, most of the time. :)

What is your favorite thing about SHS?

Definitely the options and opportunities. My old school was smaller than this so, smaller school = fewer options.

What movie can you watch over and over without ever getting tired of?

Thor Ragnarok, Dr. Strange, and The Martian are definitely my top 3.

If there is one thing you could change in the world, what would it be?

The air. We’re in need of a filter change.

How do you judge a person?

I don’t judge anyone, no matter how much or how little I know about them, because, 1) it’s not my place to judge anyone, and 2) even if I think I know everything about the situation, I don’t. When I lived in Florida, I lived in a judgement-free household so that’s kind of stuck with me.

What’s the funniest word in the English language?

Defenestration: the act of throwing someone out of a window.

What is your life motto?

Verily, with every hardship comes ease.

Is water wet?

Is air dry?
