The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) is a mind bending psychological thriller directed and written by Yorgos Lanthimos. The film follows a seemingly perfect family who are torn apart by a mysterious boy. The Killing of a Sacred Deer  is definitely one of the best psychological thrillers of the 2010’s, and is also one of Lanthimos’ best works.

The movie stars big Hollywood names like Colin Farrel, Nicole Kidman, and Barry Keoghan. Keoghan even won the COFCA award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Martin. All of the characters are clear and distinct from one another, they are all written greatly. Their stellar performances are backed up by amazing writing.

The camera work in the film is perfectly executed and it is unique. The cameras moves so gracefully and smoothly with the characters it immerses you within the movie instantly. The film’s cinematography is beautiful as well, using a lot of wide shots and bland grayish colors that really fit the mood of the movie well.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer has a 10/10 score, which fits the movie perfectly. The eerie string instruments and random smashes on a piano make the movie terrifying to watch. It definitely would not be as creepy without the amazing score.

You can find the movie on Netflix, giving you something to watch during quarantine!
