Boys Soccer
Next up, the boys soccer team is currently unbeaten, winning their eight seven games after a week one draw with East Stroudsburg South. The boys have found the back of the net 33 times, while senior goalkeeper Jack O’Brien has only conceded three goals the entire season.
“[I’m] especially proud of the captains who are coming up big in tough situations — being great examples but also letting younger players lead,” said head coach Mr. James Beebe. “We are finding real success reading from the same script. This is not a one-man show.”
The captains Beebe refers to are seniors Benjamin Sweeney, center mid, and Mason Heitczman, center back. The team has a mix of experienced players and new ones that contribute to the team’s success. As a result of the pandemic, the boys have had an altered season like other fall sports. This has not stopped their success.
On Saturday, Oct 31, the boys captured a huge win at home in the District XI 4A quarterfinal round against Parkland. The game was scoreless all the way through extra time thanks to excellent goalkeeping. O’Brien saved a penalty kick in the second half to keep the game level and two more in the penalty shootout. Logan Weitzmann, 24′, Benjamin Sweeney, Kevin Duffy, 21′, and Mason Heitczman all converted on their penalty kicks to send the boys to the district semifinals.
The semifinal will be held at Nazareth on Wednesday, Nov 4 at 8:00 p.m.
