Art Club provides a great outlet for creative students

SHS supports a variety of clubs. Some promote diversity, others encourage athletics, while even others concentrate on social issues.

One club that focuses on creativity is Art Club!

“Art Club has been in existence for as long as I can remember,” said adviser Ms. Bethany Wert.

The club meets twice a month from 2:30 pm. – 4:15 p.m. in Room F-107.

“The Art Club has approximately 25-30 members,” said Wert. “Students are not required to attend every session, although most members do.”

At every session, club members are shown new concepts and they explore different types of art-making materials. Club members are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone by experimenting with different types of art. Students are also encouraged to work on their class projects. Club members can work alone, in pairs, or in groups.

“At the beginning of the year, Art Club members are asked to write down three goals,” said Wert. “These goals can be individual goals or group goals. I design projects and activities based on members’ answers and interests.

Art Club also has plans to work with other groups.

“We also collaborate with other clubs and activities throughout the year,” said Wert. “For example, our plan is to help out with some of the visuals for the school musical.”

The Art Club is an outlet for SHS students to express themselves and to improve on their creative ability. New members are encouraged to join.
