Teacher Feature on Ms. Keller

Noah Morell, Staff Writer

At which school in the district do you teach?

I teach at Chipperfield Elementary School.

What subject(s) do you teach?

I teach all elementary subjects (ELA, math, science, social studies, social skills, phonics, and phonemic awareness).

What grade (s) do you teach?

Kindergarten is the current grade level I am teaching.  I taught 3rd grade for 10 years, 2nd grade for 2 years, kindergarten for 5 years, and dabbled with 1st grade for 1 year.

How long have you been teaching at SASD?

This year is my 18th year of educating little minds.

What is your favorite part about teaching?

My favorite part of teaching is watching the excitement on my student’s faces when their “lightbulb” goes on.  Everyone learns differently and at different paces and it is joyful to watch each student encounter success.

What is one piece of advice you would share with your students?

You can climb any mountain and reach the top.  Struggle and mistakes are natural, that’s how we learn.  Do not give up, just continue taking the steps forward.

How and when did you know that teaching was what you wanted to do?

I wanted to be a teacher since I was in kindergarten.  My teachers were such great role models to me; they made me feel important and always encouraged me to do my very best.  I wanted to do the same for others!
