Teacher Feature on Ms. Wood

Eli Badillo, Staff Writer

At which school in the district do you teach?
Stroudsburg High School.

What subject do you teach?
Math.

What grades do you teach?
10-12.

How long have you been teaching at SASD?
18 years.

Why did you choose the subject you teach?
I teach math because it’s using logic to solve problems and puzzles (aka FUN!). There’s only one answer and when you find it, you feel accomplished. Also, formulas are relevant in everyday math (banking, construction, medical, etc.).

What is the most important lesson you have learned as an educator?
The easy part of being an educator is teaching the content. What I’ve come to learn is that we all have personal struggles in our everyday lives. Sometimes mental health is more important than math. I have learned to be aware, flexible, and available for students.

What is one piece of advice you would share with your students?
Value your education. Have fun in high school, but don’t lose sight of the big picture…success in life. Set goals, even if they’re daily. Strive for success in the future and don’t let other high school peers and drama get in your way.

What is your favorite quote and what does it mean to you?
“A lot of people have gone farther than they thought they could because someone else thought they could.” – unknown
This quote reminds me that I could be that one influence that drives a student to choose their path to success.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Eternal youth. Aging is just no fun!
