At which school in the district do you teach?
Stroudsburg Middle School.
What subject(s) do you teach?
Language Arts.
What grade (s) do you teach?
7th grade
How long have you been teaching at SASD?
I started teaching in Stroudsburg in 2010.
What is the most rewarding lesson you have ever taught? Why?
Socratic seminars are the most rewarding activity for me in the classroom. In a Socratic Seminar, students read and analyze literature and then bring their ideas to a “fishbowl” discussion. The students inside the circle discuss their ideas, and students in the outer circle listen and evaluate the discussion. I love watching students develop their voices and, more importantly, learn how to really listen to others’ ideas.
What is your favorite part about teaching?
My favorite part of teaching is the students! Seventh graders are fun, creative, and curious. I enjoy teaching, interacting with, and learning from them as we read and write together.
What is one piece of advice you would share with your students?
Make safe choices, and be kind.
Why did you choose the subject that you teach?
I find joy in reading and writing, and I enjoy empowering students with skills and knowledge to help them find this joy as well.
