Sydney Curry, Staff Writer

At which school in the district do you teach?

My entire career I have taught at Stroudsburg JH.

What subject(s) do you teach?

Algebra, Pre-Algebra, and Marine Biology

What grade (s) do you teach?

8th and 9th grade

How long have you been teaching at SASD?

This is my 18th year in this amazing district!

What is one important lesson you have learned as an educator?

People may not always remember you, but they will always remember how you made them feel.

What is your favorite part about teaching?

My favorite part of being a teacher is the challenge of helping someone understand when they are really struggling to learn something new. Trying to find a different way to explain something can sometimes be challenging. So, when that student finally understands, it feels good knowing you helped.

What is your favorite sports team? Why are they your favorite?

Pro Baseball – Cincinnati Reds because they were the closest team to me growing up

Pro Football – Denver Broncos because my favorite color was Orange when I was little

College Football – University of Georgia Bulldogs – I have a lot of family in Georgia

College Basketball – Purdue because I grew up in Indiana and Georgia Tech because of their team and coach back in the 80s

What is your favorite quote and what does it mean to you?

They cannot tell you no if you never ask. And, the worst thing they could say is no.

It reminds me to take chances and to ask for what I need and sometimes for what I just want. Never assume that who you are asking is going to automatically say no. Always ask, because the worst thing that can happen is they say no, and who knows, they might just surprise you and say yes.

If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?

The ability to read peoples’ minds. So, when I have that student that won’t tell me they don’t understand, I would already know.
