Students show their passion for fashion in 2023
New looks and old trends are both hot this year
February 3, 2023
As we know, fashion always has an impact on the masses.
Fashion changes with every trend and varies throughout every culture making it creative and unique. For 60 years or more, the latest fashion trends were gathered from runways and fashion magazines. Today, social media influencers and the overall streetwear culture dictate what’s cool and fresh in fashion.
Understanding why bootcut jeans or cowboy boots are so popular may be hard to comprehend, but after seeing them on more and more people, one gets accustomed to the changes that happen in the world of fashion. With timeless trends like leather, denim, cargo, and animal print, fashion gives many choices on what to add to the wardrobe this season.
But with 2023 already here, one may witness many old trends coming back and new trends entering the runway. To some extent, the current fashion styles resemble the 90s fashion trends, mimicking the silhouettes and patterns of those seasons. However, there’s one big difference: this time, classic styles have been reinvented in oversized and loud colors, activewear, and streetwear styles.
Although some of the upcoming trends will be favorable, others may not look as fascinating. Junior Ava O’Connor believes this year is going to be one for the books.
“There are some things that tend to not be very fashionable one day, but then the next day, everyone is wearing it out,” she said.
Two new popular looks this year are New Balances and Birkenstocks, though they are getting mixed reviews. New Balances have various styles such as the 550s, the 574s, and the 990s.
“Flare pants and a cardigan tie together really well,” said Junior Jan’ya Maple. “It just matters how you style it. I’d love to see more puffer vests, they’re so cute.”
Style from the 90s and 2000s still makes a recurring appearance every so often. In the classic TV show Friends, Joey Tribbiani made the leather jacket seem fashionable and easy to wear. Now, we see iconic models like Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajowski wearing it effortlessly.
Platform shoes and low-rise jeans are being worn out quite frequently, as well. There have also been a lot of blazers, bomber jackets, and trench coats. There is so much to pick from.
In 2023, wear whatever you want, and just remember that if it isn’t popular now, it may come back into fashion 10 years from now.
