At which school in the district do you teach?

I teach at Hamilton Elementary School.

What subject(s) do you teach?

I teach all of them!

What grade(s) do you teach?

I teach Kindergarten.

How long have you been teaching at SASD?

I was hired 20 years ago to pilot the first full-day kindergarten program in the school district at Morey Elementary School.

What is your favorite part about teaching?

My favorite part about teaching is that I get to make a difference in a child’s life.  I love being able to greet each student every day with a smile.  I get the opportunity to be up “on stage”  as students have their first experience in school.  I also have a great Kindergarten team that embraces my energy/uniqueness! They are wonderful to work with and brighten up my day!

What is one piece of advice you would share with your students?

My advice would be that it is ok to make mistakes.  Mistakes are proof that you are trying!  It is what you do after you make a most important mistake.  Get back up; learn from your mistakes; and never give up!

How and when did you know teaching was what you wanted to do?

When I was in first grade I had the best teacher in the world!  She made learning so much fun and gave out smiley stamps that made my day!

What is a joke you always keep in your pocket?

How do you get a tissue to dance?  Put a little boogie into it!

Who do you look up to?

The person that I look up to the most is my mom.  She has been such a great role model and I strive to be as great of a mom and person as she is.  She can make anything fun and does not care if she makes a complete fool out of herself.  She is kind-hearted and will do anything that you for you!

What is your favorite quote and what does it mean to you?

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Vivian Greene

This quote means a lot to me.  I have experienced many challenges in life.  Being able to have a positive mindset and take the challenges head-on has only made me a stronger person.
