Baseball prepares for District 11 6A playoffs

On Wednesday, May 8, Stroudsburg Baseball clinched a playoff berth in their 9-2 victory over Pocono Mountain West.

It marked the team’s 6th consecutive victory after beginning the season 4-9.

Now it is on to the playoffs as they set their sights for their first round matchup against Nazareth High School.

The Mountaineers will be playing in their first playoff game in two years and first under new head coach Matthew Suarez.

As of now, it is undetermined who will be starting on the mound for Stroudsburg in this win or go home game. In six appearances this season, P/INF Damian Budhai, 9, posted a 2.36 ERA. He has started in both of the last two games for Stroudsburg and has put himself in a great position to start tomorrow.

The offense has started to pickup for Stroudsburg, with the team scoring 5 or more runs in each of the last seven games. Budhai and C Thomas Gonzalez, 10, both led the team in batting average, hitting at a .280 clip for the regular season.

P/INF Anthony Knight, 11, was tremendous at the plate this season, leading the team in both home runs (2) and runs batted in (17). He wasn’t far behind Budhai and Gonzalez, ranking third on the team in batting average (.262).

Their opponent, Nazareth, finished the regular season with a record of 17-5. Going into tomorrow’s matchup, they are ranked 39th in the state of Pennsylvania. All-time, Stroudsburg is 4-7 against Nazareth. The two teams have split the last four matchups, each team picking up 2 wins.
