Summer comes to a close and the 2024-2025 school year begins.
A new school year carries as much weight of change, hope, and anticipation just as the ringing in of a new calendar year does, whether it’s fashion, student schedules, teacher schedules, or even lunch. A new school year is a fresh start for all. From new Student Handbooks to Faculty Manuals, classroom designs, dress code, and senior parking spots—the old becomes new again.
The Mountaineer is excited to embrace these changes with the staff and students of the Stroudsburg Area School District.
As a part of this change, we’d like to introduce our new Co-Editors-In-Chief: Alexis Binikos, ’25, Olivia Celano, ’25, and Jaden Harper, ’25.
Binikos has been in journalism for the past two years and took Introduction to Journalism her freshman year. Her passion for writing and photography led her to Stroudsburg’s Journalism program and essentially, her future career. Binikos is interested in writing, reading, hockey, true crime, and traveling the world. She plans to attend a four-year university and major in Journalism and Electronic Media.
“I’m excited to be back and working with Olivia and Jaden,” says Binikos, “We have so many ideas and plans for this school year. We’re going to have a great time.” This year, as a lead editor, Binikos will be helping to reshape the overall design of our website and its contents.
This is Celano’s second year in journalism. She began her journalism journey through the Introduction to Journalism class prompted by her passion for writing and can’t wait to spend her final year at Stroudsburg High School doing what she loves. Celano’s hobbies include reading, studying Greek mythology, and writing all of which she expresses in journalism. She plans to attend college after high school to study English Literature.
“I can’t wait to be working with the journalism classes again,” expressed Celano, “Last year was a lot of fun and all the hard work really paid off. Alexis and Jaden are the best co-editors in chief I could have asked for and the rest of the class seems great!” Celano will use her creativity and love of research to help new staff members develop their ideas into digital media.
Harper is entering his second year in journalism. His passion for sports and reporting led him to joining the class at the beginning of last year. Harper’s future career plans in sports media and broadcasting. He is currently entering his second year as the Chairperson of Business Partnerships for FBLA. Harper’s other hobbies include creating YouTube content, operating a wiffle ball league, and watching all sports but mostly baseball.
“I’m fired up for this school year and this group in journalism,” stated Harper, “I know we have a great group coming in and we are all ready to get to work and make this school year great!” Harper will put his District XI experience to the test as he takes on the role of sports editor and manager. Harper hopes to bring more live-streaming and sports podcasts to our digital newspaper.
The Mountaineer is excited to welcome all of our staff members, new and returning, which, by the way, has nearly tripled since last year. In the coming weeks, we’ll introduce them all to you, so stay tuned. In the meantime, thank you for your continued support of student journalism.
