Hershey Kisses have been around since 1907 and have made people a little sweeter for over a century. When the chocolatey goodness of Hershey Kisses comes to mind, only good things are thought of.
A chocolate look-alike, Wilbur Buds, was introduced in 1894, 13 years before the Hershey Kisses. According to many sources, such as Lebtown.com, these lesser-known chocolates taste better than Kisses.
Is this a coincidence or does the shape and design of the Kisses wreak of replication?
Henry Oscar Wilbur, who was born in Susquehanna County, PA, attempted to sue the Hershey monopoly in 1909 but was unsuccessful at stopping his imitators.
Milton Hershey, who was also born in Pennsylvania, in Derry Township, was also responsible for the iconic Hershey milk chocolate bar. Hershey’s top best-sellers also include Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and the Cookies ‘N’ Creme Candy Bar.
According to Chowhound, although Wilbur tried to sue Hershey, his business has been booming since the early 1900s and will continue for decades to come. Hershey’s candy is likely found in every trick-or-treater’s bag on Halloween.
