Yesterday, Wednesday Oct. 16, Stroudsburg High School announced this year’s school musical would be “The Addams Family.”
“The Addams Family” the musical is based on the iconic 1964 TV show and the movie released in 1991. More recently, the Netflix show “Wednesday” based on the original movie began filming its second season.
The musical has that same creepy, kooky, and gothic spirit as the original media! It follows the Addams reconnecting to their dead family when Wednesday, the eldest daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams, introduces her rather “normal” boyfriend, Lucas, to the family. Normal may be subjective, but introducing your roundabout, boy-next-door, boyfriend from Ohio, of all places, to your gothic, eccentric, and tight-knit family is bound to cause some woe.
In protest, her Uncle Fester rushes to enlist the help of the family to put an end to the relationship. After all, Wednesday and Lucas seem to be from different worlds. Will this family be torn apart or come together in support of each other despite their differences? What secrets will come to light?
All will be revealed on one fateful night!
The workshop for this musical will be Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, from 2:45 to about 4:30 in the SHS Chorus room. This is not an audition. This is an informational meeting and not mandatory for future auditions. However, the audition process will be explained and the music/monologues will be handed out to students.
Ideas for how to make this show as unique as the students at SHS will be shared. After last year’s moving sets and showstopping costumes, there is no doubt this will also be a show to remember.
Expectations and participation responsibilities of the cast, crew, and pit will be explained.

This musical, much like the recurring theme of Stroudsburg musicals, carries on a sense of diversity that makes this school special. It shares the story of acceptance and is a story of “love and friendship through adversity, with a comical and macabre yet poignant spin,” as described by the Ogunquit Playhouse.
“We are very excited to present Addams Family” expressed musical director Billye Kubiak, “It is a different style of musical than any we have ever performed, and we believe the Stroudsburg students can do it all! We hope everyone will enjoy it-whether onstage, in the pit, as crew, or in the audience!”
Characters for this musical include Wednesday Addams, Morticia and Gomez Addams, Pugsley Addams, Fester Addams, Grandma Addams, Lucas Beineke, Alice Beineke, Mal Beineke, Lurch, and the ancestors!
Good luck to everyone trying out this year!
