The Stroudsburg Cheer team is the foundation of school spirit in the Pocono Mountain region. Known for their vibrant energy and fun performances, the team has made a name for itself in the halls of the Stroudsburg High School. Whether hyping up the crowd at Friday night football games or competing, this team continues to work harder and embody strong teamwork skills.
As the team prepares for yet another game, let’s take a closer look at what makes Stroudsburg Cheer stand out from the rest.
The journey to success for the Stroudsburg Cheer team is no accident. Under coaches Desiree Brown and Deja Spears’ hard work, the team continues to build a culture of respect and teamwork. Practices can be challenging, often starting at 5 p.m. and running to 7 p.m., with each member pushing themselves to perfect new skills.
Stunts, tumbling, chanting, and choreography not only require physical stamina but also mental stamina as each performance demands teamwork and trust. It’s this bond each girl has with one another, forged through hours of practice, that makes the Stroudsburg Cheer Team so much more than just a sport, it’s a family.
Brown and Spear’s leadership goes beyond just teaching stunts or choreography, they promote values of discipline, resilience, and mutual respect.
Brown also added that the team has “so much fun it’s almost like they’re out there playing.”
Assistant coach, Spears, joined the cheer family after football season. Spears states, ” Coming out of the football season was a lot, as the girls already had a foundation as a team, stunt groups, and past coaches, but we have, overall, finished the season with a bang!”
They’ve created an environment where everyone feels encouraged to push their limits, knowing that success is a collective achievement. They took the role on being coaches halfway through the year which takes a lot of strength. Even though this team has seen many coaches, Brown and Spears are doing a great job with this team while continuing to grow, learn, and persevere through any hiccups in the road.
Varsity cheerleader, Mackenzie Cottle, ’26, states that even through the change in coaches she was able to persevere because of her “love for the sport.” More specifically, Cottle states, “The cheerleading team is truly and honestly the best family that has always been constant, although getting a new coach takes some getting used to.”
In the end, it’s not just about the trophies or winning at competitions, it’s about the friendships, the memories, and the lessons learned along the way.
Here’s to another season of excellence and unforgettable moments for the Stroudsburg Cheer team!
