On Saturday, January 18, the Mountaineers dualed the Delaware Valley Warriors at home and won 38-30. Every year, these two teams meet and it consistently results in a dogfight.
This is the first time the cup has been returned to Stroudsburg in years, as the Warriors have outlasted Stroudsburg the previous three duals.
The Mountaineers came out swinging, as Jack Jasionowicz, ’26, Albert Bialasiewicz, ’26, Hunter Brown, ’25, and Chase Fetherman, ’27, all came out victorious, giving Stroudsburg a 20-0 lead early.
After going back and forth with the Warriors in the next few matches, Ilya Ogden, ’25, and Leonard DiMaria, ’27, restored confidence with wins, extending the lead even more to a score of 34-12.
From 172 to 285 pounds, Stroudsburg struggled. Only one win in five matches stripped the huge point deficit from the Mountaineers, but a clutch win by major decision from Zion Essington, ’26 made it impossible for the Warriors to complete the comeback.
“I was confident in our team’s ability to hold onto the lead they got earlier in the match,” states Chase Fetherman, ’27. “Our starting five weights are pretty good at that.”
This match leaves the Stroudsburg Boys Wrestling team at a record of 12-6 and tied for the 10 seed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. They only have two more duals in the regular season, then they take on districts.
