As of January 4, 2025, the Catholic News Agency (CNA), informs Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas from Rio Grande do Sol, Brazil, is the oldest living person in the world at 116 years old.
Born in 1908 she witnessed many historical events including World War 1, World War 2, the Influenza outbreak of 1918, and the Coronavirus in 2020.
She had many jobs including being a kindergarten teacher and also became a nun during her very long life. She has many interests including being a soccer fan of the soccer club, Sport Clube Internacional, a team founded in 1909 one year after she was born. She became the oldest woman after the death of Tomiko Itooka from Japan on Dec. 29, 2024.
According to CNA, Canabarro confided that her “secret to longevity is prayer.” Canabarro prays for everyone and prays daily by saying a rosary.
