On Wednesday, March 5, Stroudsburg’s National Honor Society chapter, advised by Maureen Verwey, will partner with the American Red Cross for the annual NHS Blood Drive in the gymnasium.
One out of every three people will need donated blood in their lifetime. If the US stopped donating blood, the supply would run out in just two days.
With a donation of blood, you can potentially save up to three lives.
To be eligible to donate blood you need:
- To be at least 16 years old
- A signed permission slip (there will be a table outside of the cafeteria leading up to the Blood Drive)
- A designated time slot – sign up at the table outside of the cafeteria or in Mrs. Verwey’s room (D213). You’ll need your signed permission slip BEFORE signing up.
Other requirements:
- Driver’s license or School I.D.
- Must be at least 16 years old – everyone (even 18 year olds) needs a signed permission slip!
- Must be at least 110 lbs
- Must be healthy
- Must be 56 days since the last blood donation
- Must be 12 months after getting a tattoo
- Must be 3 months after getting a piercing
- Have not traveled outside of the country recently
- Cannot be currently taking antibiotics or accutane (can donate 24 hours after the last dose)
