The many mediums of art

Stroudsburg High School offers many classes for students to express their creativity and show off artistic ability. The art show provides an opportunity for the community to see what talented students have been working on all year. From ceramics to acrylic paints and photography, the students have a word of art to share.

Ceramics

Ceramics is the use of clay to make both functional and visual art. We have a few ceramic teachers, including the new addition Jazmyn Moore, who teaches kids how to work with clay.

Through the half-year course, students make at least two pinch pots, a slab vessel, a group and stand-alone coil vessel, a mug, and a pinch pot sculpture as well as optional side projects.

Students are required to take ceramics before they take the sculpture class.

Digital Photography

Though taking pictures isn’t what many people imagine while talking about art, there is a skill that comes into play when taking the perfect photo. Like traditional art, photography tells a story and conveys a message.

The class, run by Sarah Cepin, teaches digital photography classes. They go over how to take and edit both photos and videos. They learn how to use digital cameras, though digital photography can be done with any camera.

The students often help the yearbook class and provide memories for everyone to look back on.

Sculpture

Sculpture is the art of making three-dimensional forms that are either abstract or stand as visual representations of an idea. In the class, students will make projects out of cardboard, papier mache, wood, clay, and any other abstract materials they have access to.

This year, students made clay gargoyles, mini doors, abstract works based on music, realistic objects made of clay, Alebrije’s designed by kids at Morey Elementary, and much more.

AP Art Studio

The AP art classes allow for students to work on a series of art of their choice that is later graded on a 1-5 scale like other AP classes. Depending on the score, student’s have the opportunity to earn college credits.

The bulletin board is full of AP artwork created with art mediums like oil pastel, water color, acrylic paint, charcoal, and colored pencils.

Mixed Media

Every art form uses mixed media. Ceramics can use acrylic, you can mix pencils and water color, and so forth.

These Art pieces made by AP art students show a mix of different art materials including, pen, acrylic paint, charcoal, color pencils and more.
