Being competitive the week of 9/14 was a must for Stroudsburg’s Field Hockey team. Coming off back-to-back losses, setting their record at 3-4, they played four games in a six-day stretch, including Bethlehem Catholic (9/15), Northampton (9/17), Pocono Mountain East (9/19), and East Stroudsburg South (9/20).
Game one of the week against Bethlehem Catholic was a lopsided 9-0 win against the Golden Hawks, taking Stroudsburg’s record to 4-4.
Falling to Northampton 0-2, they bounced back, taking down PME 5-1, and blowing out East Stroudsburg South 8-0.
The team is confident, seeing consistent presence from senior captains Georgie English, ’26, Cailin Mignosi, ’26, and Grace Coyne, ’26.
Goals have been shared throughout the team, with Grace Barzev, ’28, leading the team with seven. Leanna Neri, ’27, Skylar Neri, ’28, and Coyne follow with five each.
Neri S. leads the team in assists with six, with Neri L., trailing with four for herself. Darby Rusk, ’26, Payton Witmer, ’27, and Mignosi have brought in two each on the season as well.
Goalie Tess Nowosad, ’26, is a defensive menace this season with 63 saves, placing her in the top 6 most in saves in Pennsylvania.
Only halfway through the season, the Mounties are the seventh seed in the Eastern Pennsylvania 3A Conference. Only a few wins in the coming weeks will surely solidify a playoff berth.
The team has a lot to make up for from last year, seeing almost all starters graduate in 2024, and underclassmen have done a great job stepping up under pressure so far.
Multiple key players on the team are underclassmen, showing the teams’ youth and potential in the future.
Currently, Stroudsburg is 6-5 with seven games left in the season. Their next game is on September 23 at Pocono Mountain West.
