For the first time in Stroudsburg High School (SHS) history, the school hosted a “Miss Mountie Pageant” for the Homecoming nominees on October 15, 2025.
The Homecoming nominees were announced at the Homecoming Dance on October 11, 2025, and were greeted with great enthusiasm from their peers. The Homecoming Court this year is:
- Sandy Gravesande
- Lila Smedley
- Scarlett Garcia
- Olivia Full
- Londyn Lawson
- Joyia Adams
- Katelyn Hernandez
- Athena Skarlis
The Miss Mountie Pageant is similar to the Man Pageant that the SHS hosts in February, where nominees can choose a talent or act to perform in front of the school. All of the girls started the night off by performing their group dance.
After the group dance, they all presented their individual acts, with the more memorable performances of the night being the acts that called volunteers up from the crowd.
Lawson, ’26, commented, “The group of girls who got chosen to be nominees was phenomenal. I’m so happy to have been able to work with these girls. I enjoyed every moment, every practice, getting everything together, the shirts – everything; I enjoyed it all.”
In addition to all the girls’ acts and then one-by-one stating their heroes, they also competed against each other in a spelling bee and played the blind blame game of “Who wacked me?”
The hosts, Essam Alrefai, ’26, and Jordyn Devin, ’26, kept the energy of the crowd at an all-time high. They were so great at riling up the audience that the nominees performed their dance one last time before the night was over.
After the event, Adams revealed that her act “took a while for [her] to learn, but [she] really enjoyed it.”
She also shared, “Color guard is one of my favorite things to do. Being nominated and doing Miss Mountie for the first time was a really good experience. I like performing: I perform every Friday because of Marching Band, so it was a cool experience to do it in front of a new group of people.”
The winner of the Miss Mountie Pageant was announced during the pep rally on October 17, 2025. Scarlett Garcia received a bag of mysterious goodies as her prize.
The Homecoming queen was named at the football game against East Stroudsburg South later that same day.
The previous queen, Cameron Beebe, ’25, came back to crown Katelyn Hernandez as this year’s HOCO queen.
The festivities of these past few weeks have been exhilarating, and hopefully, the Miss Mountie Pageant will be a tradition for many years to come.
