Racism is still a sensitive issue in the USA

Valeria Osorio, sophomore

One very sensitive topic in todayai??i??s society is racism. People see things relating to this on a daily basis. We see it in the workplace, in school, and maybe even in the comfort of our own home. Most people often tend to forget how delicate this issue is and make it seem like itai??i??s okay.

Movies and even shows often portray African-American people to be bad in some kind of way. These are things people watch nationwide! All the young people in our society spend time and money watching these things and we are doing nothing to prevent it. How are we supposed to solve a problem we are doing nothing about? We should be promoting equality in our nation, but instead we are promoting hatred towards someone only because of their skin tone. Anyone is capable of doing bad things, white or black, we shouldnai??i??t be basing someoneai??i??s morals based on the color of their skin.

Did you know that a white man with a criminal record is more likely to get a job? Ai??That African-American people have faced worse punishments for the same crimes? These are just two examples of the many there are in todayai??i??s society. We need to put a stop to this and as a society as a whole. We shouldnai??i??t shame someone for what they look like. The color of your skin shouldnai??i??t define your success in life or how well you are treated by others. This is our community and we should be making it the best it can be. So when are we all going to realize that under our skin, we are all the same imperfect humans? It is time to fight for what is right and stand up for equality in our nation.
