Can you accept “the challenge?”
April 20, 2017
Viral trends have been a big part of the 21st century. Ai??People keep taking on all sorts of challenges. There are challenges for dancing, eating, and even movies.
The one challenge that created the biggest buzz was the Ice Bucket Challenge. People around the globe knew about it. When someone is nominated in this challenge, they have 24 hours to complete it or donate to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis foundation (ALS). The challenge was to get a bucket of ice water and dump it on your head. Ai??Due to the popularity of this challenge, ALS has raised $77 million. ALS is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and makes it hard to do day-to-day activities.
ai???I have done the ALS, Cinnamon, and Snow Challenge,ai??? said sophomoreAi??Zoey Herman. ai???ALS was my favorite challenge, mostly because it was for a really good cause.ai???
Some of these challenges can hurt people physically. The Cinnamon Challenge and the Fire Challenge which are just a two examples. Ai??The Cinnamon Challenge started in 2012 and was created to see who can eat a teaspoon of cinnamon without spitting it out. The challenge had success in creating laughs for some people, but also created hospital trips for others who inhaled the cinnamon accidentally. The Fire Challenge is a when someone puts a flammable body spray on his or her hand or other body parts and sets them on fire. This challenge was created around 2014, but put even more people in hospitals with burns.
The most recent harmful challenge created was the Kylie Lip Challenge. Ai??Kylie Jenner is known for having big lips. This challenge (created in early 2016) was to help girls and boys get the ai???Kylie lipsai??? they always wanted. The challenge starts off with taking a shot glass or any small round item and sucking so his or her lips are sealed into it. They hold your lips there until they start to fill the entire glass then they take it off and see their ai???Kylie Jenner lips.”
ai???Some of the challenges I have done are the ALS, Cinnamon, Snow, Fire, and the Get Out Challenge,ai??? said Senior Seth Heyer. ai???I really enjoyed the ALS Challenge because it was for an amazing cause. I actually donated as well!ai???
Ai??Some challenges that require participants to dance to certain songs like the Harlem Shake, Running Man, and one of the most recent the Mannequin Challenge. With these challenges you take different types of music old or new and just dance a certain way to the music.
ai???I love doing the challenges that have to do with dancing to certain songs,ai??? said senior Amanda Mandala. ai??? They are really fun do when your with your friends and you have nothing to do.”

I think challenges like the fire challenge is just Darwin’s way of weeding out the idiots. It’s natural selection. If you’re dumb enough to light yourself on fire then maybe you shouldn’t be creating more idiots who will light themselves on fire. Challenges like these are good for the gene pool

I Think that these challenges are a way to show how our generation are just daredevils. We don’t worry about what can happen we worry about what’s in and cool. Although some of these are for great causes but some are just plainly stupid and pointless. But with our generation that’s what we like it what keeps us entertained. This is probably why Youtube is turning into a Career.

I think a lot of these challenges like the the ALS is great because it raises awareness for a disease that most people don’t really know about. But also challenges like the fire challenge is so dangerous with the chance of being sent to the hospital.

I’m glad I don’t take part in doing the harmful challenges anymore. I used to do things like the salt and ice challenge and honestly all it did was give me a sore for a few days, and it wasn’t worth it. Challenges like the ASL ice bucket challenge are a different story, famous icons and other well known people took part and really helped raise awareness to such a good cause, I really hope that someone comes up with a challenge for SMA and other illnesses to raise awareness and get more people the help they need as well as some common knowledge on real life issues.

This story touches on a very interesting topic of dangerous challenges supporting such challenging diseases. People with A.L.S. are challenged every day to continue to fight the disease. I think these challenges really put us in the mind set of what people are going through, and offers more awareness for the disease. I hope these challenges continue to be viral and promote donation. Great story!

I think these challenges can be fun but some are dangerous. People should pick and choose which ones to do and not to do. The challenges that are for a good cause or raise awareness are great to do. Others may be fun but can lead to hospital trips as stated in the story. Overall, I think if you’re going to do a challenge, have fun and be safe.

I understand that these challenges can be a lot of fun to do with friends, but no challenge is worth the risk of a hospital visit for a few laughs. I’ve partaken in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge myself; it goes towards an amazing cause AND it isn’t harmful to you or anyone around you. I haven’t heard of the fire challenge until now; and I don’t know whether there was a cause or if it was supposed to raise awareness for something. But I believe that’s a challenge that needs to fade out. People will do almost anything if someone else does it.
