Common Threads, SHS’s clothing store, opens to the public Friday, April 7!
April 6, 2017
Through the collaborative efforts and support from administration, the school board, professional and support staff, as well as friends from our local community, we are proud to announce the grand opening of “Common Threads.”
This is the newest addition to our school-based vocational training opportunities for our young adults with disabilities at Stroudsburg High School. “Common Threads” is a clothing store selling gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothes. It is housed in the lower level of Stroudsburg High School. That’s right, we have a real store in our high school! It will be open to the public, at designated times each month, allowing our students to practice and learn job skills in a real retail environment with supports from staff.
Our ultimate goal is that our young adults will learn the necessary skills that will allow them to obtain and maintain integrated competitive employment within our local community.
Common Threads opens Friday, April 7 in the lower level of the high school! Common Threads’ hours are every Friday Ai??from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The store also opens up on every 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m!
We accept donations on a daily basis. Ai??We accept all sizes of clothing from infant to adult. Ai??We also accepting gently used accessories…purses, scarves, hats, jewelry, belts.Ai?? We will also take gently used stuffed animals. Ai??All donations can be dropped off with Ms. Sherri McIntyre in the SHS guidance office.

Seeing Common Threads for the first time was such an amazing experience! The store surprised me by the the variety of clothes found there. This program has not only been beneficial to the workers, but it creates a great way to get affordable clothes and be apart of such a great experience. The store also has clothes for school dress code which is always helpful since finding plain colored sweaters can be a challenge. I hope everyone gets a chance to shop there and see what a wonderful program it is!

Common Thread seems like a cute little shop! An assortment of clothes, a array of colors… Looks like the Common Grounds has some competition!

I think that common threads is a great thing that the high school does. It allows all different types of people to come together and help out the community.

Common threads is such a great program in partnership with common grounds, it benefits the special need program here at SHS and your own wardrobe. It is very heart warming to go down to the store that they put together and see all the effort and hard work these students and teachers are putting in to make this possible for all of our school and community.

I think this store is very beneficial to the school, students, and the community as a whole. It provides a way for students and staff to directly benefit not only the workers of Common Threads, but the people who are not able to buy clothes at the regularly expensive prices at most retail stores. I’m excited to see where this store goes in the future!

I think Common Threads is a wonderful program to help teach life skills while at the same time helping out people in our community and school to purchase affordable clothes. I also love how anyone can bring in donations, and it’s nice to see the clothes being donated sold for a reasonable price.

This is a great story!! I like how Common Threads allows students to get uniforms for such a low price! It’s also great that the special needs students are getting training for real-life jobs!

The common Threads is an amazing thing that has ever happened because the people that can’t get clothes this is their option the people that are living on the streets need clothes if its open to the public then those people should be allowed. everyone needs clothes this allows them to get some.

The common threads seems like a pretty cool shop! I was new to this school about two months ago and I immediately noticed the cool and fun things offered here. I like the idea of selling school clothes in school. Especially because I know how hard it is sometimes finding the proper dress code clothes. And what better way to explore than to get them from your very own school. I haven’t checked out common threads yet, but I know I will love it when I see it.

Hey, now you can come in dress code, and in style! And maybe even have your next three outfits the next time you go out with your friends, and all thanks to Common Threads! This is an authentic idea that I haven’t seen even my old school do (and trust me, they did everything), so I can’t wait to shop here the second I get the chance too. Along with that, I’m glad that students get such an educative and informative program, because everyone should be prepared for the outside world, brought up with skills learned from their very own high school!

This is a great thing for the workers, to be put in a working environment. I only hope this goes well for everyone.

I think it is a great way to provide these kids with work training and also having the whole community together.

This is such a great idea! I love this so much, it’s a great way to give kids real work training right in our own school too. I can’t wait until this opens up, it’s going to be wonderful.

This is a very great idea. It gives students an opportunity to be able to buy clothing inside the school including those that are appropriate to dress code.

This is very convenient and gives students the opportunity to get clothes. I am also very shocked that this school has given something so amazing to students.
