Spotlight on Aahliya Rojas

What motivates you to come to school?

What motivates me to come to school is the fact that I get to see people who I normally don’t get to see on a regular basis because of how far I live away from them.

Do you think there should be mandatory classes? Or should students be able to pick any classes they want?

Mandatory classes are fine, but if people want to pick their classes with their electives it would give them more freedom that they should be careful with.

Should there be a dress code? If so, why? If not, why not?

The topic of dress code is interesting! I think that we can handle not having a dress code, but I think its better that we have it, less time to think about an outfit in the morning and it’s all simple and not so complex. But if we were given guidelines on what to wear during no dress code would be okay.

Who is one of your favorite teachers? Explain why.

Ms. Monczewski definitely, she’s understanding and can really be really fun to work with. Her personality is also really caring and that’s my favorite thing about her!

What activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of school?

Drawing, definitely. Everyone who knows me knows that I love to draw ALL day, its kind of shocking how I haven’t gotten carpal tunnel yet.

What is one of your goals for this year?

To be able to get good enough grades to be recognized by an art college in New York.

What is your biggest motivation?

My biggest motivation right now is to just try not to make the same mistakes like those that came before me.

What are your plans after graduation?

Attend the School of Visual Arts in New York, study animation and apply for a job in Cartoon Network. Then hopefully, move to California to be more comfortable in a city life environment and to be closer to the Network.

Who do you consider a great role model?

Marilyn Monroe, she spent most of her childhood in foster homes, only to be married at sixteen. She got noticed by a photographer who saw her potential and now she’s one of the most famous pop culture icons, even half a century after a death. She started from a bad place and was able to pick herself up, that’s true motivation!

What is unique about your personality?

People always say I’m a fun and energetic person and I think that’s what I like about myself. I’m able to turn a bad situation into a positive one and that makes me happy to keep going. Being able to entertain someone is always the highlight of my day!
