Early last month, the Stroudsburg Area School District hosted a screening of My Ascencion, a documentary film on the life of Emma Benoit, a Louisiana native, whose suicide attempt left her paralyzed at the age of 16. The documentary follows Benoit’s long and winding journey to recovery, both physical and mental.

The documentary proved to be extremely impactful to students, parents, administrators, and community members who attended. Prior to the screening, resource tables were set up all throughout the halls in front of and surrounding the auditorium.

Immediately following the screening, a mental health panel consisting of senior Gonzalo Ingram, vice principal Mr. George Angelopoulos, counselor Ms. Theresa Onody, and Emma Benoit herself answered many difficult questions related to suicide,  such as warning signs and school district protocol.

The photos below offer a snapshot of the emotional event.

My Ascension is directed by Greg Dicharry and edited by Simeon Hutner.
