On Friday, October 24, Stroudsburg Football plays their biggest game of the season, even more important than the jug game. They play the Pleasant Valley Bears for the EPC Monroe Division Championship. Winning this game would be huge for the Mountaineers, seeing they haven’t won the division since 2017, and winning will solidify a playoff berth for the team.
Currently Stroudsburg is 5-4 with a chip on their shoulder to make this season different than the past three seasons. Since the 22-23 season, Stroudsburg has finished 6-5 each year, making the first round of the playoffs and falling short each time.
Pleasant Valleys’ Bears are a convincing opponent this year, boasting a 4-5 record, a huge jump from their previous 0-10 record last year. The Bears’ only loss in the division coming from Pocono Mountain East, a team Stroudsburg defeated earlier in the season 40-34 in a nail-biting overtime shootout.
The Mountaineers’ Keyen Johnson, ’27, looks to build upon his historic three touchdown game against East Stroudsburg South and lead Stroudsburg to their first division title in seven years. Quarterback Jack Mitchell, ’27, also had a career game, going 13-21 and passing for 203 yards and three touchdowns.
