You could blame this cold, rainy spring on global warming, or you could say it is Noah Kahan releasing his new album, “The Great Divide.”
After a long two-year hiatus without releasing any new music, Noah Kahan dropped his new album, “The Great Divide,’ on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Kahan’s last album, “Stick Season,” was released in 2022. He then followed with many variations of the album, the last one being released in 2024.
Kahan is known for his pride of being from New England and his heart-wrenching lyrics. With New England comes the cold, darkness, and Kahan shows us the saddest possible side of it.
Usually, Kahan is an artist I would listen to at the end of fall or dead of winter, but this time around, he decided it would be a sad spring. In Stroudsburg, it has been colder and rainier than usual for spring, so Kahan has justified this weather with his album.
“The Great Divide” focuses on the struggles of all kinds of relationships, personal growth, and emotional distance from oneself and others.
Starting my first listen at 6 a.m. the morning of the release, I found myself wanting to cry, not even halfway through the first song. Kahan definitely knows how to reach his audiences, no matter where you come from and what your background is.
As a senior, this album is helping me reflect on my experiences, relationships, and choices of the past few years of my life. “The End of August” is a song where Kahan talks about major change and how everything will come to an end at some point. This song can encapsulate graduation season and the ending of a life’s chapter, on a more depressing note, however.
Kahan is an artist for me who can tell a story of his life, and anyone can relate to it in some way. This album is more emotionally descriptive than his past, and how deep it is is all up to how you interpret it. However, I am sure if you want to put on an empathy cap and feel everything so deeply, this album will definitely save you some money at therapy.
