Coming back from a challenging start to the season, the varsity baseball team makes it states!
The Varsity Mountaineers defeated the Liberty Hurricanes 6-4 on Wednesday, May 20.
The game was tied 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning when Collin O’Connor, ‘26, hit a sac fly bringing home two runs.
Damian Budhai, ‘27, was the first pitcher of the game and only allowed three hits and two runs (zero earned) over four innings, and striking out two and walking one.
Brian Kitchell, ‘26, pitched no runs allowed for three innings. Kitchell allowed zero hits, striking out three, and walking one.
Will Fergusson, ‘26, went 2-for-4 leading the Mountaineers in hits.
The last out was a strike out by Kitchell.
As the boys head to states, make sure to wish them luck and cheer them on! Where the team seeds will depend on the result of the championship against William Allen.
