Stroudsburg High School’s newest club, the Majorettes Dance Team, has made its official debut, offering students a space to express themselves and build confidence.
The team, introduced by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is aimed at both boys and girls, enabling a supportive environment for all who wish to participate in the art of dance.
Advised by English teacher Ms. Cara Walkowiak, the Majorettes are determined to “be seen,” “be known,” and “leave a legacy” here at Stroudsburg High School.
The team emphasizes the importance of finding a space where students feel that they belong, allowing them to grow personally as well as creatively.
The Majorettes aim to be a lasting part of the school community, leaving a positive mark on future generations of Stroudsburg students.
The inspiration for the team came from last year’s Cultural Assembly, where the idea of creating a dedicated dance group emerged.
This initiative seeks to provide both boys and girls with opportunities to express themselves through dance, build self-esteem, and form lasting connections with their peers.
Abena Aidoo, ’25, the Majorettes team’s captain, has been dancing for many years and brings her extensive experience to the team. Aidoo believes that the Majorettes offer not just an opportunity to dance, but also a chance to inspire others and create a supportive, diverse group.
“I feel I have many amazing opportunities through this team,” Aidoo said. “I want to help others find their confidence and be part of something that leaves a lasting impact.”
