Today, Stroudsburg baseball continues its 2025 campaign as they host Pocono Mountain East in their home opener.
Last week, the team defeated East Stroudsburg South, 4-0, in their season opener on the back of 5 shutout innings from Damian Budhai, ’27.
Budhai was also one of three Stroudsburg hitters to drive in runs, along with Paulie Maccarrone, ’25, and Will Ferguson, ’26.
The team returns seven seniors this season, Gavin Bunn, Scott Diaz, John Gizzo, Anthony Knight, Connor Litts, Maccarrone, and Alex Pacitti.
Knight led the team in home runs, runs batted in, and slugging percentage, and was top three in both batting average, on-base percentage, and fielding percentage. Pacitti and Diaz were one and two when it comes to team rank of stolen bases.
Coach Matthew Suarez is in now for his second season as SHS head coach. When asked about improvements from his first season, he stated, “We have put a lot of work in during the off-season, we are looking to build a better offensive and defensive campaign this season.”
The team warmed up for the season with scrimmage games on both last Friday and last Monday. In addition, the team has committed to numerous early morning practices that focus on conditioning and drills. Their hard work in the preseason displays a desire for improvement and a victorious season.
With how last season ended, there is some added motivation for the team to break through and succeed. Suarez said, “We are looking to win our division this year and compete in the EPC playoffs.”
When asked about upcoming matchups he was looking forward to this season the most, Suarez responded with “Pocono Mountain East”.
Last season, the Mountaineers were swept by Pocono Mountain East and have lost their last three games to the Cardinals.
Today’s game starts at 4:00 pm and will be played at the baseball field behind the high school, weather permitting. If the game was to be moved due to weather, it would be moved to Creekview Park in East Stroudsburg.
