Tuesday, April 1, Stroudsburg held a dual against the Easton Red Rovers. Boys just barely lost, dropping the meet 72-78. The girls just couldn’t keep up, facing a rough 48-102 loss. This is the second loss of the season, yet the team is showing improvement.
The Mountaineers, a historically dominant team, are struggling to fill in the shoes of the class of 24, even seeing the boys beat by Pocono Mountain East by only 24 points, normally a comfortable blowout.
Stroudsburg struggled in the relays, only taking the girls 4×400 and the boys 4×100 from the Red Rovers, falling in the rest.
Sergio Teixeira, ‘25, and Alena Murray, ‘25 led the team in the boys and girls 100m with times of 11.51 and 12.79 respectively. They each brought in first place finishes, with Julia Grant, ‘26, coming third for the girls and Keyen Johnson, ‘27, capturing third for the boys.
Abiel Quartey, ‘25, had a great day, coming first in the 200m with a time of 23.74, and taking first in the 110m hurdles by almost a whole second at 15.87 seconds.
The boys dominated the hurdling events, sweeping Easton in both the 110m and the 300m. Seniors Quartey, Darrien Burke, Benjamin Pilcher, and Aiden Coyne brought in points for their team, giving them a strong push for a win against the Red Rovers.
In the 400m, Julianna Mcallister, ‘26, just barely got beat out for first, running a 1:00.90 dropping to second by only .17 seconds. Andrew Paxson, ‘27 brought a third place finish for the Mountaineers running a 54.53. Aidan Nieman, ’25, ran a 2:10.44 800m, giving Stroudburg a point for his third place finish, and Julia Grant, 26, captured three with her 2.23.96 time in the 800m.
The girls struggled in the long distance events, while Nieman cleared his competition, winning by almost 7 whole seconds, running a 4:53.26 1600m, while Kaidin Hein, ’25, came in third in the 3200m with a time of 11:33.49.
The jumping events were back and forth, with Murray taking the top spot for high jump and second in long jump. Madelyn Vargas, ’27, contributed with a first finish in the triple jump, and third place in long jump, only jumping one inch less than Murray at 16-02. First year jumper Cameron Satterfield, ’26, proved his worth with a second place finish in the long jump at 19-06, while the rest of the jumping events were taken by the Red Rovers.
The boys pole vault swept Easton, seeing Austin Herman, ’25, Owen Siptroth, ’26, and John Casey, ’25, taking the top three spots. Herman posted a PR of 11-07 feet, leading the clean slate for the vaulters.
Out with the throwers was a dogfight. The Mountaineers constantly battled with the Red Rovers for the top spots, and the only event to be swept was boys javelin. Sophomore Jackson Mitchell led the charge throwing a PR of 166-04, while Ben Pilcher, ’25, and James Kelly, ’25 followed close behind.
Stroudsburg shotput got taken over by newcomers, as Mekhi Kirkland, ’25, lead the pack with a throw of 46 feet, and Aren Quintero, ’26, came third, throwing 43-01.50.
Discus top finishers were Brock Lambert, ’26, Tory Bumford, ’25, Adrianna Borzio, ’26, bringing their team solid points to close out the meet.
Though Stroudsburg dropped this meet, they have their eyes set on the rest of the season, with league play starting their next meet on April 8. The Mountaineers are looking to go undefeated in the EPC North and capture another title to continue the dynasty. Follow all updates on their Instagram.
