Tomorrow, Stroudsburg baseball begins a crucial stretch of conference games that could determine their playoff fate as the regular season nears its end. With just a few weeks remaining, every game carries more weight, and the Mountaineers are locked in as they prepare to make a final push in the standings.
Stroudsburg currently sits in seventh place in the District 11 6A standings, holding an 8-5 overall record.
They have started to find their rhythm at the right time, winning five of their last seven games and showing signs of the consistency needed to finish strong.
Stroudsburg has found success in intra-conference play, posting a 4-2 record with wins over East Stroudsburg South, East Stroudsburg North, Pleasant Valley, and, most recently, defeating Pocono Mountain West last Tuesday.
This week presents one of the tougher slates on their schedule. They’ll begin with a rematch against Pocono Mountain East, a team that sits at 10-4 and handed Stroudsburg a tough loss in the Mountaineers’ home opener.
They’ll also face off against East Stroudsburg South for a second time this season. South is always a key rivalry game that brings high energy and intensity on both sides. Stroudsburg was victorious over the Cavaliers of East Stroudsburg in March.
To round out the week, Stroudsburg will step out of conference play for a matchup with Delaware Valley, a team that has struggled yet remains competitive.
When asked about this critical stretch of games, head coach Matthew Suarez emphasized how important the recent success has been, going on to say, “ The team has been able to compete and win against some really strong teams, showing us and our opponents that we can compete with anybody.”
For the team, the goal remains the same as it did at the beginning of the season. Suarez said, “We are looking to win the Monroe Division of the EPC and compete in the EPC playoffs. We will look to use this momentum to move into the District 11 playoffs.”
Tomorrow, Stroudsburg starts this stretch against Pocono Mountain East at 4pm ET at Pocono Mountain East High School.
