Stroudsburg High School’s NAACP Club hosted a cultural fair in the gymnasium where students showcased their cultural diversity. The event took place on April 16, 2025, with the help of club advisor Cara Walkowiak. Each booth was set up with a visual display, items of interest, fun facts, music, and small tokens representing their country.
Students were encouraged to visit and experience the fair during the lunch periods. They would dance to music, ask and answer questions, get mini-tours, and learn more about the diverse culture of SHS students.
“As a whole, the fair is the most interesting part of sophomore year so far, people get to represent their culture and learn about cultures they might not have known about before,” said Tuanna Reid,’27, who represented the Jamaica booth.
Overall, dozens of different booths were on display: Jamaica, Philippines, Guyana, Italy, Ireland, Dominican Republic, Thailand, Turkey, Honduras, Argentina, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago, and Ethiopia. Each booth was well-designed.
In charge of the Turkey booth, Leyla Yilmaz,’26, say, “I think the culture fair is very nice and is a good source of education for people.”
When asked the most interesting thing about her culture, Yilmaz said, “We’re the only intercontinental country in the world.” Turkey is in both Europe and Asia.
