On Monday, April 28, the Stroudsburg track and field teams headed to Pleasant Valley to take on the Bears for their final meet of the season. Entering this competition, the Mounties were 4-3, both boys and girls. After taking over the Cavalier Invitational, Stroudsburg was ready to end their season above .500, and that they did. The boys beat the Bears 88-62, while the girls won by a landslide, coming home with a 132.5-16.5 win.
From the start, the Mounties came ready. The girls swept in the 100-meter race, seeing Alena Murray, ’25, Laila Findly, ’28, and Sydney Moritz, ’25, take the top three. The boys followed, with Keyen Johnson, ’27, tying for second at 10.34, and Julien Teixeira, ’27, taking third at 10.64 seconds.
Johnson continued his dominance in the meet with his 2oom performance, taking first for the team with a time of 22.44, while Phoebe Winkelman, ’28, brought home first for the girls, running a 27.44.
In the 400m, the girls took the top three with ease, in Winkelman, Aniyah Jackson, ’27, and Cailin Mignosi, ’26, respectively. Andrew Paxson, ’27, took home second for the boys, bringing in some needed points.
Stroudsburg was back and forth with Pleasant Valley in the long-distance events, seeing no sweeps except for the 3200m, yet the result was still lopsided.
In the 800m, Dominic Perini, ’25, and Paxson took second and third for the boys, while Julia Grant, ’26, and Julianna Mcallister, ’26, reeled in first and second for the girls. Grant slid into first with a smooth 2:26.40 time, and Mcallister ended with a time of 2:31.10. In the 1600m, Kaidin Hein, ’25, took third, while Aiden Nieman, ’25, dusted his competition by almost 10 seconds, finishing in 4:46.40 to take first. For the girls, Anaya Hein, ’28, finished second with a time of 6:41.70.
The Mounties were ready for the 3200m, as both boys and girls swept their competition. Jacob Warner, ’27, Owen Balcik, ’27, and Colton Bomboy, ’28, took the podium for the boys, while Karen Helm, ’26, and Casey O’Donnell, ’27, took the podium for the girls.
The relays were a struggle for the boys, only taking the 4x800m from Pleasant Valley, but the girls took control instead. They ended up taking all of the relays, flying through the 4x100m in 54.84 seconds, and winning the 4x400m and 4x800m too.
Stroudsburg’s jumpers came to fly, as the girls swept the high, long, and triple jump, and the boys consistently took second and third.
Arianna Thomas, ’27, had a day, tying with Murray for first in high jump, while also taking first in long jump, taking flight for 15-3.75 feet.
