The regular Major League Baseball (MLB) season has come to a close as of Sunday, September 28.
The playoffs began Tuesday, September 30. According to MLB, the Tigers faced the Guardians, with the Tigers taking the win 2-1. The Padres played the Cubs, with the Cubs winning 3-1. The Red Sox faced their historic rival, the Yankees, and the Red Sox took the win 3-1. The Reds played the Dodgers, with the Dodgers winning 10-5.
The division leaders get to take a break while the wild card holders start the playoffs. The Phillies took the National League East, the Blue Jays took the American East, the Mariners took the American West, and the Dodgers took the National West.
The Reds were in a long fight with the New York Mets to take the final Wild Card spot. The Reds fought hard, eliminating the Mets from the spot the weekend of September 27.
The Mets’ collapse is historic as they at one point held the best record in baseball during the month of June. In the second half of the season, they went 33-55 and now missed the playoffs entirely.
The bottom of the division leaders was no surprise based on past seasons. The Orioles, White Sox, Angels, Nationals, Pirates, and Rockies held the bottom position in their division.
