On Monday, April 8, the Mountaineers fell to Emmaus, 6-0.
Emmaus jumped all over the Mountaineers in the first two innings, scoring four runs off Stroudsburg starter P/INF Paulie Maccarrone, 11.
Maccarrone didn’t have much help from his defense who committed two errors, which led to four extra Emmaus runs, all unearned to Maccarrone. Maccarrone’s final line was pitching 4 innings, allowing two hits, six runs (two earned), four walks, and two strikeouts.
The offense was also radio silent, recording two baserunners all game. Owen McConnell, 12, got the lone hit, and Ryan Pacitti, 9, drew a walk. That was all the offense was able to muster. Stroudsburg was also unable to get any runners in scoring position. It is the worst offensive performance of the season for the Mountaineers up to this point.
This is the first time Stroudsburg has been shut out all year after winning three straight games, scoring eight or more runs in each game. It is the team’s first shutout loss in 358 days (April 17, 2023 vs Parkland).
Stroudsburg now sits at 3-2 on the regular season with Pleasant Valley High School and William Allen High School next up on the schedule.
