On Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, the famous Eras Tour came to a close. Taylor Swift toured the world for two years, taking magic, music, and memories and tying them into one historic friendship bracelet.
The original announcement for the Eras Tour came on Nov. 1, 2022, as fans then began to sign up for pre-sale and await their confirmation codes. Pre-sale occurred on Nov. 15, 2022 causing the Ticketmaster website debacle.
Ticketmaster sent out codes the night previous to pre-sale, which had fans thrilled over the chance to get tickets to their favorite singer’s concerts. However, too many codes were sent out and not enough protection was taken to make sure that pre-sale holders got first in line.
Lines were backed up, fans were kicked off, and excitement was put on pause. For some fans, it took hours to secure tickets and others walked away with nothing. The general public sale was canceled due to the overwhelming amount of presale codes sent out. Taylor then made a statement stating how disappointed she was with Ticketmaster, and how there would be serious changes put in place for future concerts.
The Eras Tour was set to kick off on March 17, 2023, in Glendale Arizona. The tour had already set expectations high with two million people participating in pre-sale. The whole night would be filled with surprise songs as fans had no idea what Swift had planned. Anticipation was also high since this tour was Swift’s first tour in five years with previous ones getting cancelled due to COVID-19.
Since the announcement, there has been no pause in record-breaking for the Eras Tour. Even though concluded, numbers and stats still find their way to the surface to show how much the Eras Tour has affected the world.
In the second month of the tour, Swift began breaking attendance records which continued throughout the tour. She first broke the record at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, and others like MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
As the tour prolonged, fans took the lyric “So make the friendship bracelets,” from Swift’s song “You’re on Your Own Kid,” from her album “Midnights,’ and turned it into reality. Shelves of craft stores began to clear as anticipation caused friendship bracelet making. At the shows, bracelets were traded and memories were made.
Swift also caused some natural disasters. With the jumping and screaming during “Shake It Off,” came seismic activity. According to the Grammy’s, the seismic activity was equal to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.
During the tour, Swift announced many projects such as re-recordings, music videos, and bonus tracks. One announcement was “The Eras Tour” movie. The film was released on Oct. 13, 2023. The film broke ticket sales and is the highest-grossing concert film of all time.
The final numbers were announced at the conclusion of the tour. Swift gave out $197 million dollars in bonuses to her crew. She boosted the global economy by $9 billion dollars. Her ticket sales at the end were over $2.07 billion with 10 million people in attendance.
The Eras Tour comes to a close by being the biggest-grossing tour of all time. The tour healed many hearts, brought new faces to the fandom, and made childhood dreams come true. While Swift takes a well-deserved rest, fans say goodbye to the end of an era.
