For the Stroudsburg Baseball team, this is the third straight season with a different head coach. In 2022, Phil Stokes coached his final season, leading the team to an 11-10 record and a District 11 6A tournament appearance. His successor, Alex Hiscott, was the head coach in 2023, directing the team to a 9-11 record and missing the playoffs. Now Stroudsburg turns to former assistant coach, and former Pen Argyl coach, Matthew Suarez to lead the team this season.
After missing the District 11 6A Tournament in 2023, Suarez shared one of his goals is “to have a successful season and make the playoffs.” He also wants to “create a positive culture within the baseball program and compete in all of our games.”
Creating a positive culture starts from the top with the seniors. This season, the seniors returning for the team are Jackson Broncato, Pietro Maccarrone, Owen McConnell, Liam O’Connor, Max Powanda, and Aiden Quintero. Broncato was 3rd on the team in batting average, 2nd in doubles, and 3rd in earned run average (ERA). Also returning is Anthony Knight, 11. Knight led the team in home runs last season with 2, was tied for first in runs batted in (RBI), and second in hits and batting average.
Their 2024 schedule includes the season opener at Pocono Mountain East (Tuesday, 4:00pm), vs East Stroudsburg South (Home Opener – 3/21, 4:00pm & at South – 4/24, 4:00pm), and vs Pleasant Valley (Home – 4/10, 4:00pm & at PV – 5/2, 4:00pm).
