Beccas Closet

Amy Conboy

Prom is right around the corner and some people have already started shopping!

Beccas Closet is a nationwide nonprofit organization that collects new or gently used prom dresses, then distributes them to girls who are otherwise unable to afford one.

Rebecca Kirtman, a freshman at Nova High School in Florida, was the founder of this organization. Taryn Silvernale plays a big role in Beccas Closet in Stroudsburg. My sister’s best friend, Katie Troutman, used to run the chapter, and I used to help every year with the event. When she graduated last year, she needed someone who was invested in the charity to take over and run it. My involvement in the event in the past had given me experience, and I was more than willing to accept the position, Silvernale says. There is a three day event where they sell around 75 dresses of all different styles and sizes. Year round, Beccas Closet are always looking for not only dresses, but also donations of jewelry, shoes and accessories. To donate, contact Taryn Silvernale at [email protected]
