Best Buddies creates opportunities that include all students

Erin Mazol, Staff Writer

Best Buddies is a nonprofit nationwide organization opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development, and is inclusive for students with disabilities. Best Buddies formed in 1989.

SHS has its own Best Buddies club, and the advisers are Ms. Heather Nowosad and Ms. Sherri Mclntyre.

The club’s purpose is to encourage the inclusion of everyone with all abilities and build respect and support for people with disabilities.

“Best Buddies fosters friendships between people with all abilities that last a lifetime,” said Nowosad.

Students come together to engage in activities such as arts & crafts, games, team building, and more.

Best Buddies also organizes many fundraisers and events.  One popular event was “Smooch a Pooch” which has been a big success.

Every year, members of Best Buddies compete in the Special Olympics.

” Special Olympics is our biggest event that we attend every year,” said Nowosad.
