New courses arrive at Stroudsburg High School

November school board updates

Julian Gajewski
Mr. Anthony Lanfrank poses with the Sociology textbook for his new course.

Multiple new courses and opportunities for college credit were recently approved.

Two new courses have been added to the Social Studies Department by Mr. Anthony Lanfrank, Sociology CP and Civics.

Both are semester courses centered around cultural and societal principles, including subcultures and countercultures within society, and how they relate to each other. They will each count for 0.5 of history credit.

The new Civics course will be required to be taken by grades 11/12. The preexisting Economics course, currently an elective, will also be required for graduation. More details will come to follow.

A brand new dual enrollment program is also arriving at SHS.

Lackawanna College has recently agreed to provide college credit to students who perform well in business classes given by the business department.

This is different from dual enrollment provided by Northampton Community College and East Stroudsburg University as, instead of attending in-person classes at the college, college credit can be earned by students who complete affiliated Stroudsburg courses.

Accounting, Business, and Sports Marketing courses are each valued at three college credits from Lackawanna College. More details will follow within the coming year.

TestOut is also making it easier for students to receive Microsoft Certification. Its goal is to help students in Microsoft literacy and prepare them for the Microsoft Certification Exam.
