Whether you’ve seen the 2004 version or the 2024 movie, “Mean Girls,” then you know “on Wednesdays we wear pink.” The English department adopted the trend initiated by colleague Danielle Ramstine.
On Tuesday afternoons, as faculty members leave the building and wander to their cars, you can always hear a booming voice in the distance reminding others of the Wednesday dress code.

As the year progressed, Ramstine slowly inspired (or coerced) others to join. What started as a few members of the second floor C-hallway has now progressed to what you see in the picture– faculty from other departments, other hallways, men, women, even students–Wednesdays, we wear pink!
This picture represents English, math, history, special education, library, guidance, health department, and more.
Why does Ramstine do it?
Naturally, because she’s a fan of the movie and, one can speculate, the color pink.
Perhaps it’s her way of recreating the infamous high school clique (minus the burn book) among colleagues. Or, perhaps, it’s a reminder that we, as faculty, need to incorporate a little whimsy into our very structured school day.
When asked why she does it, Ramstine responded, “I think it’s fun. I really liked the movies, and the kids always comment on it. They seem to like it.”
Ramstine decided it was time to coordinate a picture, and at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, we, wearers of pink, were instructed to meet in the main lobby area for a group photo. She even solicited a non-pink participant to take the photo (thank you, Mr. Doug McCoy).
Cara Walkowiak, English teacher, even went as far as showing her pink manicure; Ilene Austin, MTSS coordinator, flaunts her pink mug for the picture, and Christian Gould, the newest member of the English department, has even joined the trend with his pastel pink plaid shirt.
Ramstine says she is “tickled pink” by the outcome and hopes more people will join the weekly fun.
She had originally speculated the trend started a few years prior, but upon further reflection, she realized it goes further back.
“Cara Walkowiak has been here three years,” explained Ramstine, “so it’s more like five years or more that we’ve been doing this.”
Over the years, she’s had one consistent partner in pink, her hall mate, Ashley Krause. This club welcomes newcomers if you’d like to join the whimsy. Nonetheless, when you see pink on Wednesdays, you’ll understand why now. It’s no accident.
