After putting together their most successful season in nearly a decade, Stroudsburg Baseball is set to take on Nazareth in the opening round of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) baseball playoffs. Thanks to their strong performance throughout the regular season, the Mountaineers secured home-field advantage and are scheduled to host the playoff matchup later today.
However, weather conditions may pose a problem. Rain has been falling consistently, and forecasts don’t look promising leading up to first pitch, which is currently set for 4 p.m. If conditions don’t improve, there’s a strong possibility the game could be postponed.
Stroudsburg comes into the game riding a wave of momentum. After a slow 4-4 start to the season, the team found its rhythm and has since won nine of its last eleven games. Since April 10, they have lost just twice, finishing the regular season with one of the best records in the conference and peaking at the right time.
Mountaineers outfielder and pitcher Ryan Pacitti, ’27, had this to say as the team prepares for the big-time matchup.
“We fell short last year to Nazareth, but the way we have been playing is incredible,” Pacitti said. “This Stroudsburg team is the best we have had in over a decade, and we will put up a fight.”
Pacitti has been fundamental to the success of the team this season, slashing .339/.437/.407, driving in 17 runs in the course of the season. As a team, the Mountaineers have been hitting on all cylinders offensively, with a .303 batting average and 160 runs scored this season.
Five different Stroudsburg hitters with over 60 at-bats are hitting over .300 (Anthony Knight, ’25, Damian Budhai, ’27, Pacitti, Connor Litts, ’25, Will Ferguson, 26). Knight is having an incredible senior season all over the diamond, leading the team in average, runs scored, doubles, and runs batted in.
Whether or not the weather allows the game to be played today, one thing is certain: this year’s baseball team believes it has what it takes to make a deep postseason run.
